CN100 Game of the Week: Oak Park-River Forest vs. Glenbard West

IHSA Football Week 7 – Oak Park-River Forest vs. Glenbard West

– Glenbard West is in uncharted territory.

The Hilltoppers have lost consecutive games for the first time in 10 years and saw their 32-game West Suburban Silver winning streak and 30-game overall winning streak snapped with losses to Lyons and Hinsdale Central.

The defending Class 7A state champions (4-2, 2-2) will find the going tough yet again Saturday against unbeaten Oak Park-River Forest in a game that will be broadcast by CN100. Fans can watch the game on CN100, The Comcast Network, at Noon and 4 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 9, and 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 11. You can also watch it anytime in HD with Xfinity On Demand by clicking Get Local and CN100. X1 users, look for Get Local under the Xfinity Services tab.

"We were missing four starters against Hinsdale Central and I was very happy with how our players fought and played on the road," Glenbard West coach Chad Hetlet said. "This is a great group of young men and I’m blessed to have the opportunity to work with them."

The biggest injury losses were a pair of senior captains, running back DJ Ficarella and linebacker Eric Samuta. Filling the void in the backfield has been the combination of juniors Ryan Diver (50 carries, 349 yards, three touchdowns) and Dre Thomas (63 carries, 328 yards, one touchdown).

Senior quarterback Cole Brady has had a solid season, going 61-for-122 for 903 yards, eight touchdowns and three interceptions. Senior tight end Alex Philstrom is his main target, catching 18 passes for 230 yards and three touchdowns. Junior wide receiver Alec Pierce is explosive with 277 yards and three touchdowns on only six catches. Junior wide receiver Ben Reifel also has six catches for 139 yards and two touchdowns.

Seniors Dionte Moorehead and Matt Scruggs man the defensive end slots with sophomore Marky Winters at nose tackle.

The linebackers include senior Chris Langan and junior Nate Sheller with seniors Luke Favia and Eric Samuta inside. Seniors Justice Bradley and Jackson Goleash and junior Jack Campanella are in the mix in the secondary.

Oak Park-River Forest (6-0, 3-0) has been a revelation. The Huskies built momentum in recent years with four straight playoff berths and a 9-2 mark last year. This year, however, the Huskies are blowing teams away to the tune of a 220-66 point differential, but they are entering the toughest stretch of their season. In addition to Glenbard West, OPRF also has Hinsdale Central and Lyons, the two teams that beat Glenbard West, on the schedule.

Dynamic senior quarterback Jeremy Hunt leads the way. He’s 84-for-138 for 983 yards, 13 touchdowns and three interceptions and another 220 rushing yards and four scores. He has big targets in the passing game like 6-foot-5 senior wide receiver Jared Scott (22 catches, 250 yards, three touchdowns) and 6-foot-4 senior wide receiver Eddie Gorens (14 catches, 191 yards, one touchdown). Sophomore wide receiver Craig Shelton has 19 catches for 237 yards and four scores.

Juniors Michael Houston (29 carries, 243 yards, six touchdowns with 13 catches for 143 yards and a touchdown) and Terrance Roundy (68 carries, 438 yards, four touchdowns) carry the load in the backfield.

Senior linebackers Christopher Banks-Mitchell, Rolliann Sturkey and Tariq Thurman lead the defense with assistance from senior defensive backs Keyon Blankenbaker and Wesley Cheatham.
